Name: Hokukailani
Species: Quaterneri
Gender: Female
Appearance: Hokukailani is covered in various fitted gold bangles around her ankles and wrists as well as her sizeable biceps. Around her sun-bronzed neck is a series of different fangs from various creatures she has slain with her own hands. Her bronzed form, covered in tiger stripes and various scars from dueling, is clad in a close-fitting fire-proof silk off-white thread, which often is worn underneath a torso-suit made from a gambesson like material - torn and patched from years of use, slits exposing a bit of area around the joints as to allow for free movement. A flap of cloth dangles from her belt - the front of which has a volcanic mold of some unknown humanoid’s skull. Standing at a sizeable 6’11” - a little short for by a Quaterneri but sizeable for most creatures - she is a frightening opponent to meet on the battlefield.
Abilities:
Martial Combat: Hokukailani is trained in the art of the traditional Quaterneri weapon - the backclaws - a series of blades extending from the back of their gauntlets. In addition, she is an accomplished combatant using all six of her limbs, and is able to grapple and exchange blows with the best of fighters. She is even able to match the strength of ogres, giants, minotaurs and dragons in terms of physicality. In addition to this, her speed is not lacking either.
Fire of Quadan: Hokukailani can utilize basic fire spells. Nothing excessively fancy - just fireballs evoked from her hands as well as imbuing her weapons and fists with fire temporarily. Despite their straightforward usage, Hokukailani’s fire packs an explosive punch, especially when used in conjunction with her martial prowess.
Survivalist: Able to endure great adversity, Hokukailani is able to fight long and hard without need for stopping to rest and eat, though she is not invulnerable to her body’s needs - just able to take a ‘bigger loan’ out from her reserves than most others. In addition, she is able to hunt without the need for a bow and arrow - instead preferring to wrestle and kill beasts herself for coveted meat.
Weakness:
Honorbound: Hokukailani prefers using her sheer athleticism to win contests - she will refuse to use ranged weaponry or stealth as a general rule, even when melee combat would be unwise. To her, dying on one’s feet using one’s fists is more honorable than wisely making an enemy a pincushion via a ranged ambush. This can also make her a liability in actual combat scenarios, as she will turn her back on any plans which involve such ‘dishonorable means’.
Abrasive: Hokukailani is royalty. While she is no ‘prissy princess,’ she does look down on others who lack the privileges she has - and in Quaterneri culture, this means strength. She can be quite cold to those without the power to help themselves - with the exception of children. Even when children are involved, she will yell and attempt to scare them into line rather than nurture and coax. This also makes her a poor team player, and prone to bungling diplomatic scenarios in spite of being quite knowledgeable about HOW to do it theoretically.
Needs to Chill: Hokukailani is also susceptible to ice based attacks as well as extremely cold temperatures. Being of a race dwelling near volcanoes, traveling in snow and ice requires a constant heat source.
History:
The daughter of a Quaterneri village chief, Hokukailani got the short end of the stick when it came to size, and was the second youngest and smallest of her siblings - even her younger brother ended up being larger than her. In spite of this, she has always had her eyes on the prize of becoming chieftan via defeating her brothers and sisters in the trials required to become head of their clan.
Growing up, she often distanced herself from her brothers and sisters, preferring to be a loner - swearing that she would beat them all one day and claim that rite for herself.
Unfortunately, this was not to be. Before the trial even began, her father told her in a private conversation that even should she win by some miracle, he would not find her worthy. When she asked why, he told her that she would have to discover the answer herself.
The trial was an all out battle royale between the siblings. With the conversation of the previous night weighing heavily on her mind, she lost.
Distraught and humiliated, she entered into a state of self-exile, traveling the realms, looking for the qualities she lacks, so that she may initiate another challenge to become the chieftan.
